Cutting the pieces: 8 I recommend making a muslin pattern for repeated use (it also allows for pattern modification more easily, i.e. sleeve length). 8 I recommend making the back piece on a fold so that the back piece comes out perfectly symmetrical (place the center of the back piece on the fold). 8 I recommend cutting out the front pieces together (place fabric WS together, pin pattern to fabric and cut). 8 I recommendlaying your pattern piece out to verify relevant repeats and fabric pattern direction. Making the Binding: 8 1/2” binding (13mm) works best for this scale. I use a 1” binding maker (which makes a 1/2” double fold binding). 8 Cut (2) 10” / 25cm pieces of binding. Finsh one end of each piece. 8 Set aside the remainder for the neck and front ties (one continuous piece. Follow the chart below: Overall length of1/2” binding to make: 0-6 64” / 162cm 6-12 66” / 168cm 12-18 68” / 174cm 12-24 70” / 178cm 2T 72”/ 183cm 3T 75” / 190cm 4T 77” / 196cm 5 79” / 200cm 6 82” / 208cm 7 84”/ 214cm 8 86” / 218cm

Assemble your cut pieces: Lay the front pieces, lapped, on the back piece (right sides together). Pin in place at top of shoulders/ arm, under arm and side seams.
Cut (2) 10”/25cm pieces of binding and finish one end of each piece. Tuck unfinished end into armpit of one side, 1” down. Pin in place. 3/8” (1cm) seam allowanceStitch top of arm to neck, bottom of arm and side seams for both sides.
Next, place the raw end of the other side tie into the seam allowance on the opposite side. Make sure the finished edge is towards the outside. Stitch in place.

Zig zag or overlock your exposed, interior raw edges. Backstitch at the inverted corner of the armpit. To reduce bulk, clip the corner when you finish the seams (careful not to cut your stitching). This will prevent a “pucker” in the armpit. Finish the sleeves: Fold raw edge 1/4” / 6mm and press. Fold again 1/4”/6mm and press. Stitch in place. Finish each raw edge on the front pieces. Hem bottom to desired length.
Apply last piece of binding to neck/front edge. Leave 10” (25cm) at each end for the ties. Verify the length against the kimono and trim as required. Finish both ends of the binding. Pin the binding every 3” (8cm) around the neck, and pin each side of the shoulder seam on both sides of the neck. This will allow for smooth sewing and keep the binding from moving/ stretching.
